The People's Stories Book
In January 2017, Milton Keynes celebrated its 50th birthday. Inspired by this anniversary, Living Archive MK set out to capture the memories of local people – from those early pioneers who arrived 50 years ago, to those who have been drawn here in recent years. From those existing residents who faced the upheaval of a city being built around them, to those who were born here and have always called it home.
From these ordinary people come a series of extraordinary stories. Read about how a community show opened the new Milton Keynes Theatre, the rise and fall of the National Hockey Stadium, and how a stilt-walker got into trouble for appearing in the famous red balloon advert. In these pages, more than 50 residents of Milton Keynes reveal their memories of the town’s past and their hopes for its future. Their stories are a celebration of community and culture in a unique and sometimes misunderstood town. This is the portrait of a city through a selection of its residents – the story of Milton Keynes in the words of its people. Order your copy of the book here. |
