Youth Project
Across the summer and autumn of 2017 we worked with Milton Keynes Youth Faculty to deliver a programme designed specifically to engage young new arrivals to Milton Keynes. Ten young people aged 14 to 18 from across the globe, including Afghanistan, Eritrea and France, took part in film training workshops, sharing their feelings about Milton Keynes, learning new skills in camera operation, interview techniques, and sound recording.
‘The project was well received by the young people as they felt it reminded them of their different journeys to Britain. I believe the experience of the project enabled them to re-visit the notion of identity and belonging. They can’t wait to share this experience with their peers and parents. The project was very useful as it highlighted the multi-faceted culture of Milton Keynes in simple stories by young people. The most important thing for young people is not only that they were able to tell the stories of their journeys but it also allowed them to learn new film making skills whilst having fun with their peers.’

‘The young people who were committed to the project gained a lot of life skills and an understanding of multicultural Britain. The staff involved in the project from Living Archive were terrific in terms of going with the young people’s pace and giving them more flexibility with the timings and the dates to suit them.'
